StockTagger Help

Everything you need to know to use StockTagger for AI-powered stock photo metadata.

1. Getting Started

Sign in with Apple

On first launch, StockTagger asks you to sign in with your Apple ID using Sign in with Apple. We only receive an anonymous user identifier; your real email is hidden behind a relay address.

A new account automatically receives 100 free credits so you can try every AI mode right away.

Open an image folder

Click Open Folder in the toolbar (or press + O) and choose any folder containing stock photos. StockTagger scans the top level of that folder (no recursion into sub-folders), reads existing EXIF/IPTC/XMP metadata, and lists every supported image in the table.

Supported file types: .jpg, .jpeg, and .png. Other formats are ignored.

2. Interface Overview

Toolbar (top bar)

  • Open Folder — pick a folder to load.
  • Current folder name — shows the active path.
  • Balance — remaining credits; turns red if your account is overdue.
  • Refresh — reload the latest balance from the server.
  • Export — export metadata as CSV.
  • Random Rename — rename every image in the folder to a fresh random identifier.
  • Top Up Credits — open the in-app purchase sheet.
  • Logout — sign out of the current Apple ID.

Sidebar (left panel)

  • AI Mode — switches between Keywords and Prompt, and selects the platform / quality.
  • Pre-input — optional hints the AI uses when generating (e.g. "studio shot, softbox").
  • Filter — show All, Undone, or Done images.
  • Selection — Select All / Deselect All, selected count, and estimated credit cost.
  • Generate — starts batch processing of the current selection.

Image Table

Each row shows the file, type, pixel size, generated title, keyword count, status, and per-row actions. Click a row to toggle selection. Use the checkbox column for explicit selection.

Pagination

Use the arrows to flip pages and the Per page picker (10 / 20 / 50 / 100) to control how many rows appear in each page.

3. AI Modes

StockTagger offers five modes, each tuned for a specific use case. Costs are deducted per image.

Mode Credits Output
Normal 1 Title, description, keywords, Adobe & Shutterstock categories — suited for Adobe Stock / Shutterstock.
Normal Enhanced 2 Longer, more detailed Normal output. Best for better discoverability on Adobe / Shutterstock.
Getty 2 Title, description, keywords following Getty Images submission rules.
Getty Enhanced 3 Premium Getty output with expanded description and richer keyword set.
Prompt 1 5 reverse-engineered AI image prompts (for Midjourney, DALL-E, Stable Diffusion) with the original aspect ratio.

Pre-input

Anything you type in the Pre-input box is appended to the AI prompt. Use it to steer the result — for example "studio lighting, white background, no people" or "outdoor, golden hour, autumn".

4. Generating Metadata

Generate one image

Click the Gen button in the row's actions column. The button shows a spinner while the AI is working and turns into a status badge when done. Your balance is refreshed automatically after each successful generation.

Batch generation

  1. Choose an AI mode in the sidebar.
  2. Use Select All or click individual rows to pick images.
  3. Check the estimated cost in the sidebar to confirm enough credits.
  4. Click Generate. A modal shows live progress, success / failure counts, and a Stop button.

Failed images can be retried individually without re-charging successful ones.

Filter and selection

Use the Filter dropdown to focus on Undone or Done images. Select All only acts on the currently filtered list, so you can quickly process only the unfinished work.

5. Editing Metadata

Open the edit panel

Click the Edit button in a row. The edit panel lets you change the title, description, keywords, and Adobe / Shutterstock category inline. All edits are validated and saved directly to the image's EXIF / IPTC / XMP metadata.

Title

Adobe recommends ≤ 200 characters. The panel shows the current character count.

Description

Free-form text. Aim for 100–250 words for best discoverability on stock platforms.

Keywords

Type keywords separated by commas or new lines. Most stock platforms accept 7–50 keywords; Adobe Stock caps at 49.

Category

Pick the most relevant Adobe and Shutterstock category for the image.

Clear metadata

Click the Clear button in a row to wipe the AI-generated metadata for that image. This resets the file to its original state and is irreversible.

6. Export & Rename

CSV export

Click Export in the toolbar (or press + E) and pick a format. The CSV is written next to the source images.

  • StockTagger All — every field in one CSV (best for archiving).
  • Adobe Stock — Adobe's required column layout for bulk upload.
  • Shutterstock — Shutterstock's required column layout for bulk upload.
  • Getty — Getty Images contributor CSV format.
  • Prompts — one row per image, one column per generated prompt (1–5).

Random Rename

Many stock agencies require unique, opaque filenames. Click Random Rename in the toolbar to rename every image in the current folder to a fresh random identifier (no spaces, no original-name leakage). A confirmation dialog appears because this action cannot be undone.

7. Credits & Purchase

Credit packages

  • 1,000 credits — $1.99
  • 2,400 credits — $3.99
  • 6,000 credits — $9.99

New accounts receive 100 free credits automatically after the first sign-in.

How to top up

Click Top Up Credits in the toolbar (or press + T). Choose a package, confirm the in-app purchase, and the credits are added to your account once Apple confirms the transaction. If verification is delayed, the credits arrive automatically when Apple sends the confirmation webhook.

Refunds

In-app purchases are processed by Apple. To request a refund, go to reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple ID used for the purchase. According to our terms, all recharges are final once credits are used, but Apple may grant refunds at its discretion.

Account overdue

If your balance falls below the sum of in-flight (un-settled) consumption, the balance shows in red with an (Overdue) tag, and generation is paused. Top up to resume.

8. Settings & Account

Open Settings with + ,.

Language

The app interface supports 50+ languages. Pick one in Settings. A restart is required for the change to take full effect — click Restart Now to relaunch immediately.

Account

Settings shows the email associated with the current Apple ID.

Delete account

Two confirmation dialogs prevent accidental deletion. The first explains what will be erased; the second asks for final confirmation. Once confirmed:

  • Your real email and relay email are erased immediately.
  • Your account is marked deleted; you can no longer sign in with the same Apple ID until you sign in again to reactivate it.
  • Anonymous identifiers and balance records are retained for anti-fraud and financial compliance.

If you still have unused credits and want a refund, request it from the App Store first — deleted accounts are not eligible for refunds.

9. Troubleshooting

Generation says "Insufficient balance"
Your available credits are lower than the estimated cost. Reduce the selection, switch to a cheaper mode, or top up first. The estimate is the sum of selected count × cost of the current mode.
My folder is empty
StockTagger only shows .jpg, .jpeg, and .png files. Sub-folders are not scanned recursively — open the folder that directly contains the images.
"Account is overdue" appears in red
Your balance is below the value of recent un-settled consumption. Top up to clear the overdue state — new generation is paused while overdue.
"Server URL not configured. Please restart the app."
Quit StockTagger completely and relaunch it. If the message persists, sign out and sign in again.
Top up succeeded but credits did not appear
Credits are added once Apple's server confirms the purchase. This usually takes a few seconds, but can occasionally take longer. Wait 1–2 minutes and click Refresh in the toolbar. If credits still do not appear, contact us with the Apple receipt ID.
The same image was charged twice
StockTagger does not cache results — each Generate call is a new AI request. If you click Generate twice for the same image in the same mode, you will be charged twice. Use Filter → Undone to avoid re-processing finished images.
AI output looks wrong / off-topic
Add a short Pre-input hint (e.g. "interior, modern kitchen, daylight") to steer the AI. You can also edit the result afterward via the Edit panel.
